SHORTLISTED in THE PLAN AWARD 2015, ‘Special Project” category. On the border between Turkey and Syria, an Italian-Turkish archaeological mission is working on the ancient village of Karkemish, which is one of the most important urban archaeological sites of the Middle East. Between 1911 and 1914, Thomas Edward Lawrence mostly known Lawrence of Arabia directed this excavation. His 20th century house was found in the site. The archaeologists founded some walls and the ruins of the main room old pavement where a precious roman mosaic was transferred during his stay in the site. The planned new structure aims to preserve the remaining of Lawrence of Arabia’s house with special attention to the roman mosaic. The project aims to rebuild the original volumes without obstructing the view of the ruins. All the material used to realize it are totally reversible: wooden laths on a metal framework and transparent polycarbonate.

PROGETTO FINALISTA nella categoria ‘Special Project’ di THE PLAN AWARD 2015.  L’antica città di Karkemish è uno dei più importanti siti archeologici urbani del Medio Oriente ed è ora oggetto di una serie di campagne di scavi, frutto di una collaborazione Turco/Italiana. Tra il 1911 e il 1914 Thomas Edward Lawrence, noto come Lawrence d’Arabia, diresse gli scavi, e la sua “casa/missione” è stata rinvenuta all’interno della città antica. Si conservano porzioni di muri, le tracce dei vani e delle soglie e i resti della pavimentazione del salone principale, un mosaico fatto rimuovere da una villa romana e trasferito nell’abitazione di Lawrence.  La struttura progettata a copertura e protezione dei resti della casa è stata studiata in modo da ricostruire la volumetria originale del fabbricato, senza Perù precludere la vista delle rovine. Telaio metallico e listelli in legno sui prospetti, copertura in polcarbonato trasparente. Intervento totalmente reversibile.
